Sadie Jemmett releases The Killing of George Floyd
British singer-songwriter Sadie Jemmett’s new single is a response to the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis and the widespread anger and sorrow it has provoked.
The track was recorded at her home studio during lockdown and has been released immediately through her Bandcamp page with all money raised going to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to secure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons.

The track is in keeping with the protest songs of the 1960s and 70s, from artists such as Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, CSNY and Judy Collins. It was written and recorded in three days as a response to the brutal news footage of George Floyd’s death and in solidarity with the many protests that have been taking place globally.
Indie music bible HotPress said: “Sadie’s new single honours the widespread protests and heartbreak George Floyd’s murder at the hands of police sparked”.
Maverick American Magazine described it as ‘a powerful new song’.
